Agnes Pollock

Agnes is a resident artist and the owner and curator of The Barton Gallery. She paints contemplative and contemporary still life and landscapes in oil. Her subtle use of light, colour and the simplicity of her compositions evoke a sense of calm and serenity.

“I am primarily a painter of light. In my still life work I paint from observation and I love to capture the subtle way in which a simple object holds and reflects light. There is something magical about the stillness which draws me in and makes me want to paint (light) more than anything else. My inspiration and passion to paint comes from closely observing light, colour, shapes and tonal values around me, whether in everyday objects or in a beautiful view.”

Her first exhibition in Bath was nearly ten years ago and now she has many private collectors in Bath, around the U.K. and internationally.

She was commissioned to paint a Kintsugi bowl by a psychotherapist years ago, and has painted many Kintsugi bowls since. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. The goldfilled cracks highlight the beauty of imperfection. This is also a perfect metaphor for the ‘art of therapy’ which helps us repair and embrace our own scars and human flaws.
