Jelena Dietrich
Jelena is inspired by the intricate beauty and delicate details found in nature, which she translates into her refined porcelain work. Her journey with ceramics began in Vienna, where she fell in love with the material while studying at the School of Arts Vienna (Kunstschule Wien). She graduated in 2021 with a degree in Ceramics and Product Design, followed by a second degree in Painting and Processes in 2022. During her studies, she had the opportunity to master the complex techniques of mold-making and slip casting, allowing her to create exceptionally thin and translucent porcelain pieces.
After completing her studies in Vienna, Jelena moved to Bath to pursue a Master’s degree in Fine Art Ceramics. There, she deepened her exploration of porcelain’s translucency, which led her to develop a passion for creating lamps, lampshades, and delicate tableware. This period of experimentation helped shape her signature style, blending function with artistic expression.
Currently, Jelena works from her studio at Bath Artists’ Studios, where she continues to create, teach, and explore new possibilities in porcelain. Her work is crafted from high-quality porcelain, with each piece being one of a kind. She embraces the natural movement of the material, allowing it to guide her creative process while maintaining her artistic vision. Jelena is particularly inspired by the intersection of utility and art, striving to create pieces that are not only admired but also used—because true beauty lies in the everyday moments of life.
